Rise Against Hunger partners with nonprofits around the world to provide food and other transformational assistance to those affected by hunger. These partners support a variety of development programs that work with members of the community to meet their basic needs and create long-term, sustainable change. Potential partnerships are evaluated by the level of need within the community, the sustainability of the organization’s program, its ability to import and manage in-country distribution of food assistance, as well as conduct monitoring and evaluation on the use and impact of Rise Against Hunger meals within their program.

Prospective Partners

Rise Against Hunger welcomes partnership applications from nongovernmental organizations, nonprofit organizations or community associations interested in working with us to provide food and other assistance through ongoing developmental programs and crisis response programs.

At Rise Against Hunger, we believe healthy, educated communities are the key to ending world hunger. We invest our food and other assistance in programs that teach children and adults, or that provide health care and other services. These programs promote well-being and equip participants with the skills and knowledge to become active participants in the workforce and in their communities.

Rise Against Hunger also works to support those who experience crises of all types, natural or man-made. We welcome applications from organizations that are able to react quickly and effectively in crisis situations.

Nourishing Lives (Meal Distribution) Partnership Opportunities

Rise Against Hunger distributes more than 90 percent of meals packaged annually to partner organizations worldwide who operate ongoing education, health and empowerment programs. Rise Against Hunger places a strong focus on maternal and early childhood health and development, education and vocational training.

Rise Against Hunger will not be accepting new Nourishing Lives partnership applications for 2021.

Crisis Response Partnership Opportunities

Since its inception, Rise Against Hunger has responded in times of crisis.
We currently allocate up to 10 percent of annual meal production, in addition to other transformational assistance, to respond to all types of crises all over the world. We welcome applications from potential partners who are prepared to react quickly when disaster strikes. Rise Against Hunger will consider applications from organizations that are able to pre-position aid in strategic locations or who can quickly mobilize the delivery of aid in collaboration with Rise Against Hunger.

Rise Against Hunger is issuing a call for Expression of Interest for the Emergency Response portfolio. Applications will be assessed by an evaluation committee to identify prospective partners that have the mandate, capacities and comparative advantage to support achievement of results from communities affected by an emergency and/or crisis. If successful in its application for the Expression of Interest, prospective partners will be contacted to submit a concept note in the event an emergency or crisis affects their country/countries of implementation. Empowering Communities (Sustainable Agriculture and livelihoods programming)

Rise Against Hunger aims to increase food security and incomes through agricultural and livelihoods programs by promoting improved agricultural techniques, post-harvest processing, business development skills and market access.

Our programming helps smallholder producers build resilience to the shocks and stresses of climate change by promoting climate-smart ecological approaches to agriculture as well as diversification.

Although we are not currently accepting applications, in the future we will welcome applications from potential partners who support food security and livelihoods through increased agricultural production and strengthened value chains. Rise Against Hunger will consider applications from organizations with demonstrated success in the target countries and with the proposed activities.

product donations

Rise Against Hunger welcomes product donations. In 2019, we leveraged partnerships to distribute more than $36 million in product donations for distribution around the globe, including first aid supplies, antibiotics and pain relievers, clothing and shoes, blood pressure and diabetes medications and soap. If you are interested in making an in-kind donation, please email ProductDonations@riseagainsthunger.org.

Yes. After your application has been initially reviewed, a Rise Against Hunger representative will follow up with you and provide feedback on your application. If you were denied, you will have the opportunity to re-apply the following year during the open application period.

If you are placed on the waiting list, it means that you are approved, pending the availability of meals. When meals become available, you will be informed by a Rise Against Hunger representative.

Typically, Rise Against Hunger ships meals in 40-foot ocean containers, which can hold up to 285,120 meal servings. The reason for large scale distributions is simple economy of scale. However, Rise Against Hunger may be open to smaller distributions, particularly for those partners who wish to ship via air. As stated above, approved partners are required to cover all costs associated with transportation and importation.

Rise Against Hunger does not currently cover any transportation or importation cost. Each partner is responsible for covering these expenses. We believe that this cost-sharing promotes partner accountability and encourages them to treat the shipment(s) as an investment and not a donation.
*Rise Against Hunger covers shipping costs in some emergency relief situations.

Rise Against Hunger partners with NGOs that run programs that offer education or services above and beyond feeding the hungry.

Rise Against Hunger has meal packaging locations across the U.S. and five international locations. All of our meals are packaged by volunteer groups. These volunteers fundraise to pay for the full cost of the meals.

Rise Against Hunger meals are dehydrated, high in protein and highly nutritious. They contain four ingredients–long grain white rice, texturized soy protein, dehydrated vegetable blend and a sachet of vitamin powder. Because the meal is fully dehydrated, it needs to be boiled in clean water to be eaten. You will find cooking instructions on each box of meals and on each bag of meals.

Rise Against Hunger does offer some monetary programming support and in-kind assistance other than meals. Although Rise Against Hunger will only procure and distribute goods that fit into our mission of reducing food insecurity and improving nutrition, partners are welcome to include their own materials on their shipments as long as these items are legal and safe to ship.

Rise Against Hunger accepts grant requests within our Empowering Communities and Crisis Response portfolios. Please see above for more information.
