Each holiday season communities around the world come together on #GivingTuesday for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity by giving back. This year, we’re excited to be joining the global celebration alongside leading international insurance agency, AIG.
AIG will be quintupling their previous meal packaging total through a coordinated series of events across their Houston, New York, Boston and Miami offices on and around #GivingTuesday, December 2nd, 2014. Hundreds of AIG employees will package a collective total of 40,000 meals for distribution to the less fortunate across the developing world.
AIG has a track record for providing a hand up to communities affected by chronic hunger and malnutrition. In April 2014, AIG staff assembled 10,000 nutrient-rich meals that delivered to our partner, Reach Now International in Zambia — a country that suffers under 60.5% poverty and 45.4% malnutrition rates (World Bank). Reach Now provides approximately 10,000 children with a hot meal each school day in Lusaka, Zambia. School enrollment in Lusaka has doubled with the introduction of the local school feeding program — allowing for brighter futures in the lives of countless children who would otherwise lack the opportunity to attain an education, a career or a healthy life outside of the debilitating confines of poverty.
You can join AIG and Stop Hunger Now in the global call to action this December by providing nutritious meals to those in need. AIG employees have an opportunity to have their donations matched 2 to 1 when donating through AIG. Additionally, every donation made by anyone on #GivingTuesday, December 2nd through the United Methodist Church Advance will be matched dollar for dollar!
Huge thanks to AIG for being a partner in the fight against hunger! To learn more about what AIG is doing to serve our communities visit their Citizenship page.
